Socio-cultural work in intercultural way

See Me - Erasmus Intensive Course 2013 in Tampere, Finland was a two-week activity with over 50 university students from eight different higher education institutes in six different countries.

Lecture given by prof. Rosa Rodriquez Izquerdo from UPO, Sevilla
The idea of the course was to study and compare the situation of young people in Europe (ages 16-25 years) - what are their dreams and problems, everyday life at present and future prospects. This was studied by statistics and research from each participating country: Lithuania, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Spain and Finland. The students had also interviewed some young people and prepared videos or photogalleries.

And what was similar? Youth is a bridge between childhood and adulthood. The bridge can be shaky or more steady, more or less scary. Sometimes you need to look for it a bit longer, sometimes you find it more easily.

Youth is a phase of life when you test who you really are, what is me? It cannot be told by anyone, though parents often try to do it, you have to find your own path, your own bridge.

Youth is most often defined by others being "a problematic age", "a threat", "at lost", "much more troubled than we were when young". What the young people, what any person in fact, wants, is to be seen and heard as themselves, without prejudices and preassumptions.

What are the feelings that you see in this picture?
The course finished with a community art event "See Me - Surprise You" in the central square of the city of Tampere. The whole event was planned and performed by young people themselves to show, this is how we are, this is what we are capable of, see us as the way we are and have fun with us.

The link is a three-minute moodreel from the the event. Check it out...
